Police Identify Suspect In Elderly Man's Fatal Beating

Silano DeJesus Echavarria, 23, is charged with capital murder in the beating death of 85-year-old Pedro Munive.

PASADENA, TX -- A man who police said beat an 83-year-old man to death outside the victim's car on Sunday morning has been identified by police who have charged him with capital murder.

According to police, Silano DeJesus Echavarria, 23, is suspected in the death of Pedro Munive outside the Briarcliff Apartments. He is still at large.

Munive, who collected cans for extra money, was making his rounds when he was attacked. His body was found at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday by an officer patrolling the area. Police said Munive had severe injuries to his face, head, and neck.

On Tuesday, police released photos of a man seen in the area, and received several tips identifying the man as Echavarria.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477 or the Pasadena Police Department at 713-477-1221. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
