Here are the top three stories in Round Rock today:
- Round Rock ISD will receive just over $1 million in remaining COVID-19 relief funds through a Texas COVID Learning Acceleration grant. The total amount of funds is expected to be $1.02 million and will be given as Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds. According to the district, this grant will fund additional learning intervention mandated by House Bill 4545. (Community Impact Newspaper)
- The City of Round Rock Parks & Recreation Department has received three awards from the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS). The awards were presented for the Parks & Recreation Department's Yonders Point “Friday Fun Nights” series of events, Round Rock Juneteenth Festival, and for the CPATH Adaptive Power Soccer Program. TRAPS presented the awards at its annual Institute and Expo. Every year TRAPS recognizes Parks and Recreation excellence across the state of Texas. (City of Round Rock)
- A Texas man who died of COVID-19 has left nearly $143,000 to an animal shelter in his will. In his will, Ted Walinski, a Georgetown resident, left $142,800 to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. According to Misty Valenta, the shelter's animal services director, this is one of the largest individual donations to the shelter in the past decade. (Austin American-Statesman)
