Round Rock ISD Offers Update On Summer And Fall Education
Superintendent Steve Flores announced plans underway for the upcoming school year and identified summer programs to keep students engaged.
ROUND ROCK, TX —As Round Rock ISD closes the 2019-2020 school year, and as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to sweep across communities, Superintendent Steve Flores provided and update for parents and the community on plans for Summer and Fall. Having had to transition from traditional in-person instruction to virtual learning was one of many challenges the RRISD community faced, and as summer draws near, many parents wonder what's to come for their student's learning opportunities.
Superintendent Flores laid out plans to begin summer learning program designed to provide students and families with necessary resources to support learning engagement through the summer months beginning on June 1. Instructional Continuity: Summer Edition, is available to all students and caregivers with student participation optional. The program will integrate Texas Education Agency-created At-Home Learning packets with Round Rock ISD instructional videos. Program support will be available with Round Rock ISD educators able to answer questions throughout the summer. Students will be asked to complete a weekly knowledge check. Those that complete at least four of the eight weekly knowledge checks will be eligible for prizes and recognition.
A traditional summer school called Summer Learning will also be provided by the District for qualifying students identified by their school campuses. Summer Learning will be virtual and begins June 1 for eight through 12 grade students, and June 8 for students in first through seventh grades.

As preparations begin for the upcoming school year, RRISD continues its commitment to delivering a high-quality education experience for all students with a priority on safety and well-being of students and staff once campuses re-open. In collaboration with the Texas Education Agency and other state and local agencies, RRISD is devising a plan to what will likely be a hybrid teaching approach allowing for social distancing in compliance with guidelines to mitigate the spread of disease. The plan will be in place in time for the new school year and will be announced to parents and students once available. A Fall 2020 Planning Task Force has been assembled with representatives from across the District and includes campus administration, teachers, operations, human resources, curriculum, assessment, special education, technology and more. The Task Force is divided into five committees focused on crucial areas:
- Safety & Operations Committee will evaluate what would be necessary to potentially use physical facilities safely for in-person instruction.
- Curriculum & Instruction will develop in-person and virtual teaching and learning options.
- Student Support Services will evaluate how services such as counseling, behavioral and mental health support can be best delivered in the new environment.
- Professional Development will identify training needs for staff.
- Human Resources & Legal will develop guidance and protocols related to the expectations and rights of district personnel.
As progress continues to be made, the community may access important updates and announcements via the RRISD website and on the District's social media channels including Facebook and Twitter.
