RRISD Announces Summer Programs For Athletes In Grades 7-12

The District announced its summer strength training programs open to area middle and high school students beginning June 8 through July 31.

ROUND ROCK, TX — As the 2019-2020 academic school year comes to a close for school districts across Texas, many have begun announcing summer programs available for students in both virtual and non-virtual spaces. Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) recently announced plans to allow students to participate on a voluntary basis in summer strength training and conditioning programs throughout the District's five high school campuses beginning Monday, June 8 through Friday, July 31.

The programs follow recently released guidelines provided by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and coaches and staff will work to ensure all safety protocols are in place and strictly followed. Information and guidelines for summer strength and conditioning and sport specific training are available on the UIL website.

All June activities will take place outdoors, with the District considering hosting indoor activities in gymnasiums and weight rooms in July, based on the latest information related to COVID-19. Part of the safety measures to be implemented include social distancing, encouraging use of facial coverings when appropriate, and sanitizing of all equipment throughout workout sessions. Students will bring their own towel and labeled water to use throughout their workouts.

Locker rooms and shower facilities will not be accessible during the programs, and students are asked to attend their workouts wearing their proper gear and to return home immediately following the programs to shower at the end of their workouts. Programs will be held for all student athletes in grades 7-12, and all participating students are to have a current physical on file. Parents may register their student through the RankOne website.
