Here are the top three stories today in Round Rock:
- On Mar. 10, the Round Rock City Council approved a $2.5 million contract with G. Hyatt Construction to improve the South Mays Street corridor from Logan Street to Hesters Crossing Road. Improvements include an additional gateway into Downtown Round Rock, enhancing the appearance of the corridor, repairing fencing, and more. Construction will start in April and is expected to be finished by the end of 2022. (City of Round Rock)
- On Mar. 10, the Round Rock City Council approved the purchase of a $557,901 new sign for the Dell Diamond. The approximately 15 feet tall and 30 feet wide sign will be paid through the Dell Diamond Capital Improvement fund. According to city staff, this is the "first time the marquee sign for the iconic venue will be replaced since it opened in April 2000." (Community Impact Newspaper)
- Round Rock and Austin police departments are seeing an increase in officers resigning and retiring since 2019. Many cite the police protestors, riots, the "de-fund the police" movement, and police indictments for the decrease in the number of police officers. Many departments are now understaffed and trying to recruit officers. (KVUE)
