Here are the top three stories today in Round Rock:
- The City of Round Rock is still assessing the damage from the severe weather on Monday, Mar. 21. Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan signed a declaration of disaster on Mar. 22, and asked the public "to avoid areas with damage as public safety and transportation crews continue to clear debris." Officials believe that hundreds of structures have been damaged and residents are encouraged to report any damage. Multiple traffic signals do not have power, so if you encounter one, treat it as a four-way stop and then proceed with caution. Regular garbage and recycling pickup continue on the normal schedule. (City of Round Rock)
- Samantha Arevalo, a Round Rock resident, had to be pulled from underneath rubble by her neighbors after a tornado destroyed her home. Samantha "quickly grabbed everything off the bed and dragged the mattress into the bathroom" when she heard the strong wind. Then she waited under her wrecked home for 25 minutes until help arrived. She was not injured and said "everyone helps each other here." (KVUE)
- On Monday, Mar. 21, the roof of the PetSmart in Round Rock was destroyed which caused flooding. The animals inside were rescued by Texas Humane Heroes, a no-kill adoption center, and safely relocated to the Cedar Park PetSmart. (KVUE)
