We Are Blood Calls For Donations To Safeguard TX Blood Supply

Donors are asked to book an appointment to mitigate a shortage of blood supply in the days and weeks ahead amid coronavirus concerns.

ROUND ROCK, TX — In an effort to safeguard the blood supply for Central Texas patients in need, and as a result of the cancellation of many mobile blood drives due to new work-from-home or building access policies, We Are Blood has sent out a call to the community to consider blood and platelet donations in the coming days and weeks. There has been a downturn in appointments, likely due to cold and flu season, and donor centers have expressed concern about the potential for blood and platelet shortage in the coming weeks.

Persons that are healthy and eligible are urged to book an appointment at any of the donor centers to assist by donating blood and providing assistance for patience requiring life-saving care. Donors may be reassured that blood and platelet donation is safe, and donor centers and mobile drives are clean environments. The FDA has found no link that coronavirus is transmittable via transfusion, and extra care is being made to increase wipe down procedures on all surfaces. Blood donor screening measures also reliably prevent those not feeling well from donating blood.

Donating blood and platelets now, or scheduling a donation for this week helps prepare for the anticipated event of further mobile drive cancellations and for any additional decreases in blood donations within the community. Please help to protect Central Texas blood supply and consider calling to book your appointment to donate blood and/or platelets. For more click HERE.
