Workshops Offer Small Business Owners Insight On Data Security

The free workshops are open to entrepreneurs and small business owners and discuss topics to keep your data safe by industry experts.

ROUND ROCK, TX —Entrepreneurs and small business owners are invited to a series of FREE workshops hosted by the Round Rock Public Library and Austin SCORE on Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. through Friday, Feb. 28. SCORE is a non-profit dedicated to helping small business and entrepreneurs, start, develop and maintain their businesses.

The workshops will feature a variety of topics presented by experts and practitioners and relating to small business owners and entrepreneurs including discussions on finances, marketing, and strategic planning. Attendees will learn the risks, security-trade-offs, and ways to protect data that is critical to your business and customers.

Mistakes in storing important data may lead to serious business disruptions including attacks on data, computers, programs and networks - concerns that recently have become more prevalent. Speakers Thomas Dillig, a computer scientist, and Aurélie Beaumel, a business IT expert, will offer sage advice and in-depth explanation on the ways data on connected computers creates potential business risks and share ways in which systems and data can be compromised.

Discussions will center on the principles and steps every business may apply to mitigate different types of risks, as well as the effectiveness and costs. The speakers will use real-world examples and discuss the gravity of careless handling of data and cyber threats to businesses, and ways to implement effective security methods.

Tom holds PhD/MS/BS degrees from Stanford University in Computer Science specializing in Software Security. He has been on the faculty of Computer Science at UT Austin and other universities and has over 10 years of experience in academic research in software security.

Aurélie holds a MS/BS/BA degrees from Stanford in Cognitive Science and Economics. She has over 10 years of experience working with leading large and small companies as a consultant. She specializes in helping companies leverage technology effectively for better business outcomes.
