5K For Congenital Heart Research Scheduled In South Austin

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — The Congenital Heart Walk and 5K is taking place on Saturday in South Austin.

The walk is a national fundraising event series benefiting the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) and the Children's Heart Foundation. The walk honors and remembers the millions of people impacted by congenital heart disease.

At last check, organizers were nearing their goal to raising $75,000 for the cause. Since 2010, the event has raised more than $10 million. "The Congenital Heart Walk shows the nation how a team of inspired individuals can join together to make a difference," organizers wrote. "Funds raised will support the missions of both national nonprofit organizations who are uniting to fight CHD."

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 5, at the Travis County Expo Center, 7311 Decker Lane. Registration is at 8 a.m. with the walk kicking off at 10 am. A family-friendly one-mile walk route will be offered along with the 5K run. Activities and a raffle will occur before and after the walk.

In terms of parking, there is a $5 fee to park at the Expo Center. Organizers ask that participants enter through Gate 1. Note: Dogs are not allowed at this event.
