Alamo Drafthouse Invites Bill Murray to Celebrate His Birthday in Austin

The theater is celebrating the actor's 65 birthday with special screenings - and an invitation.

The Alamo Drafthouse is celebrating actor Bill Murray’s 65th birthday this month with a special week-long screening of some of his top movies -- and an invitation for him to attend.

β€œWe’re holding the great man a seat at seven screenings in celebration of his 65th birthday. If he shows up, no one will ever believe us,” the theater said on its website.

The event is titled β€œNo One Will Ever Believe You: 6.5 Days of Bill Murray.” The Drafthouse will show some of Murray’s best films, including Stripes, Lost in Translation, and Tootsie (yes, Bill Murray was in Tootsie).

In an open letter to Murray, whose birthday is on Sept. 21, Drafthouse Creative Manager John Smith writes:

β€œI’m holding one seat for you at every screening (your brothers get in half-price). Added bonus, I’ll ask the managers and see if I can swing hooking you up with a popcorn and soda (we have Coca-Cola products). Refills? Okay, refills are free. If you’re here on your actual birthday we can also probably do a milkshake. You’re on your own for the booze, and no bringing in outside tequila. Maybe we’ll see you there. I don’t have your voicemail number, but I’m sure someone on the World Wide Web will get this note over to you.”
