Austin Has New Millionaire Thanks To Lottery Win
Winning Mega Millions ticket was recently purchased at HEB on Slaughter Lane valued at $5M, but winner's identity is secret.
AUSTIN, TX β There's a newly minted millionaire somewhere in Austin after receiving a $5 million windfall in claiming a winning Mega Millions prize worth $5 million.
An Austin resident who opted to remain anonymous claimed the second-tier prize on June 5, according to the Texas Lottery. The ticket for the May 21 drawing was purchased at an HEB on 5800 Slaughter Lane. The Quick Pick ticket with Megaplier matched all five of the white ball numbers drawn (10-50-55-56-58), but not the Mega Ball number (15). The Megaplier number was 5.
Mega Millions is played by choosing five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from thecsecond field of 25 numbers. To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawncincluding the Mega Ball. Players matching fewer numbers may not win the jackpot, but still emerge as winners, lottery officials noted.

The ultimate Mega Millions jackpot grew to $530 million, and a single winning ticket sold in San Diego, California, matched all six winning numbers. Unlike Texas, California requires lottery winners to be publicly identified.
In Texas, however, people can remain anonymous, so we have no way of knowing who the person(s) are who came into the $5 million by virtue of their winning ticket. There are probably signs, if you know the person. If they find themselves no longer hesitating when the sandwich clerk asks if they want avocado on their meal for an extra charge, that could be a tell-tale sign of new riches. If the person formerly used coupons to save a few bucks at the store but abruptly has stopped, that also is a red flag.

The map below is where the winning ticket was purchased. Look for a customer buying extravagantly with wild abandon without the benefit of coupons, and that could be the person who won. Say congratulations!
