Austin ISD Eyes South Austin Building As Its New HQ Building
With a coming cash windfall from sales of surplus properties, district looks to relocate to Southfield building at I-35 and Ben White Blvd.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Austin ISD officials are looking to possibly relocate district headquarters to a nine-story building in South Austin, according to a published report.
The building officials are eyeing as their new base is the Southfield building near the northwest corner of Interstate 35 and Ben White Boulevard, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The district has gone on a selling spree of late, including putting its current headquarters building housed in the Carruth Administration Building on West 6th Street on the market.
During the AISD board of trustees meeting on Monday night, officials were expected to approve the sale of their current headquarters site to Schlosser Development of Austin for $36.5 million, according to the report.

Several other district buildings have been put up for sale recently, including the Baker Center once housing a school in Hyde Park for $10.6 million to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and the former Millett Opera House (home of the Austin Club) for $3 million to the Foundation for the Preservation of the Historic Millett Opera House.

District officials have stated previously they intend to use some of the $64 million reaped from sales of surplus properties toward the purchase of their new headquarters building. The Southfield Building comes with a $28.4 million price tag. District officials have touted the Southfield site for its superior accessibility and space as compared to the current district headquarters.
