Austin Parks Foundation 'Movies In The Park' Series Returns

Event attendees will watch 'The Little Mermaid' and meet Zilker Theater Productions cast members poised to mount the stage version.

AUSTIN, TX — Where to take the kids as their school year winds down? Consider a showing of "The Little Mermaid" at Dove Springs Park this Thursday.

Austin Parks Foundation’s Movies in the Park Series is back this week with a showing of The Little Mermaid at Dove Springs Park. Movie and theater buffs are invited for a special meet and greet with the cast of Zilker Theatre Productions’s The Little Mermaid ahead of the screening of the 89’ classic.

"Ariel, Sebastian and Ursula will be joining us in the park before the Summer Musical kicks off their production in July!" organizers wrote excitedly in a press advisory. "Mmmpanadas and Casey's New Orleans Snowballs food trucks will also be on site!" The former is a linguistic twist on empanadas, baked or fried pastries with a variety of filling long popular in Latin American cultures. The name comes from the Spanish verb empanar, meaning wrapped or coated in bread.
