CapTex Triathlon Scheduled In Austin

AUSTIN, TX — With one week until the 29th annual CapTex Triathlon left to go, there are fewer than 100 spots available for would-be athletic contenders.

The 29th annual Life Time Tri CapTex presented by Verizon is set to fill the streets of downtown Austin with 2,000 athletes participating in the International, Sprint and SuperSprint distances. The event is scheduled for Monday, May 27.

On Memorial Day, Austinites will be joined by athletes from seven countries and 33 states, who will participate in the 32-mile swim-bike-run event that begins with a swim in Lady Bird Lake, is followed by a bike ride up Congress Avenue to the Capitol and back south for a loop along Cesar Chavez Street. Finally, the triathlon will conclude with a run that loops through West Riverside, Butler Park, Barton Springs Road and finishes at Vic Mathias Shores. Greeting the triathletes at the finish line will be a brand new finishing gateway structure built to symbolize the hard work that triathletes have put in to earn the title “triathlete.”

And here's a new twist: For the first time in history, the CapTex Tri will be live streamed in its entirety. Live commentary and multi-camera coverage will be simulcast through Life Time Tri’s Facebook page and streamed onto CapTexTri.com.

"We have a few spots available for the triathlon and we are incredibly honored to have the immense support from the CapTex Tri athletes and Austin community," Life Time Tri Brand Manager Scott Hutmacher wrote in an email to Patch. "It’s particularly special for us to host the triathlon on Memorial Day and to honor our nation’s fallen heroes who inspire countless Americans to work hard, sacrifice and push themselves past known limits. For so many of us, that’s what competing in triathlons is all about."
