Dove Springs Rec Center In South Austin Closed For Renovations

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Parks and Recreation Department’s Dove Springs Recreation Center closed for renovations on Monday, with an estimated closure time of one year.

The Dove Springs Recreation Center opened its doors on March 28, 1998, to provide citizens of the Dove Springs community recreational and educational resources, city officials said in an advisory. The 18,000-square-foot center contains a full court gymnasium, weight room, arts and crafts room/computer lab, class room, dance studio, and meeting rooms.

With funding allocated from the 2012 GO Bond, the Parks and Recreation Department aims to add flexible spaces to meet the desires for new and expanded programming. The building expansion will be integrated with improvements to the park and playscape areas, officials said.

During this closure, access to the trails, playscape, pool, sports fields, and other open-space amenities will remain available, officials said.

During the closure, the programs listed below will continue to meet at the following locations:

SUMMER CAMPS
Summer camp is currently being held at Houston Elementary.

BOREDOM BUSTERS
Boredom Busters program will be held at Southeast public library 9:00am- 1:00pm (ages 5-12).

SUMMER BREAKFAST/LUNCH PROGRAM
Summer breakfast/lunch program will be hosted at Southeast Library 5803 Nuckols Crossing

• Serving breakfast 900am – 1000am
• Serving lunch 1200pm – 100pm

SENIOR PROGRAMS
The Senior Programs will meet at the South Austin Neighborhood Center, located on Durwood Street.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM (2018-2019)
The 2018-2019 Afterschool Program will be hosted at Widen Elementary School

C-DAY / WINTER CAMPS / SPRING BREAK CAMPS (2018-2019)
These camps will be hosted at Widen Elementary School.

KARATE
Karate will be hosted at Southeast Library Tuesday/Thursdays 5:30pm-6:30pm

YOGA
Yoga will be hosted at Southeast Library 9:30am – 10:30am

YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM
The youth sports programs will not be programmed out of Dove Springs Recreation Center for the 2018 – 2019 season
