Fresh Sweat: New Gym Brings Modern Workout Style to North Austin

Retro fitness comes to North Austin

The excuses to skip the gym are gone, because Retro Fitness is opening its first location in North Austin.

The low-cost fitness chain is bringing its first Texas location at the southwest corner of Anderson Mill Road and Highway 183 in Austin. The fitness facility is offering area residents a sneak peak into the gym as well as the chance to sign up for a membership at reduced, pre-opening rates.

“Retro Fitness offers the amenities and atmosphere members expect at high-end gyms, without the hefty price tag,” said Diane Douglas, a native Austinite who co-owns the new Austin Retro Fitness with her husband Todd. “Members will keep coming back because we offer a fun, friendly, clean and non-intimidating workout environment. That’s the key to the brand’s success and why we’ll be a great addition to the Austin community.”

Modern circuit and weight training equipment, certified personal trainers, a children’s playroom are just a few of the amenities available. The facility includes state-of-the-art cardio machines and equipment. Movie lovers can watch films during their workout in the Retro Cardio Movie Theater. The 15,585 square-foot facility also includes a state-of-the-art gym that holds group fitness class such as spin, Zumba, kickboxing, and yoga. If you want to refuel after your workout, there’s a Retro Blends Smoothie Bar as well.

The first 250 members who sign up before the gym’s November opening will be able to enroll for free instead of the regular $99 price. The gym offers two memberships, including a $19.99 per month Basic Membership and a $29.99 VIP Membership that includes unlimited group classes, the children’s playroom and tanning. The Austin Retro Fitness Preview Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
