Campaign has been started to help defray funeral costs for Devonte Ortiz, a teenager killed in a dispute related to fireworks.

AUSTIN, TX — A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help defray funeral costs for Devonte Ortiz, a teenager fatally shot on July 4 in a dispute related to fireworks.

The 19-year-old was a former A/B honor roll student athlete at Travis High School in Austin, according to information found on the GoFundMe page. A neighbor, Jason Roche, 41, has been charged with his murder after a dispute related to the setting off of fireworks.

"Unfortunately when tragedy happens most families aren't prepared," those launching the page wrote. "In this tragic time of need we'd humbly ask for a token offering for Devonte's home going arrangements and family. Nothing's too big or too small and all offerings are thankfully accepted."
