New Boutique Hotel Planned Along South Congress Corridor In South Austin

The 35-room hotel is planned by owners of the popular Gueros Taco Bar, to be located behind the eatery.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — The owners of Guero's Taco Bar in South Congress have plans to build a three-story boutique hotel behind the popular eater off South Congress, according to a published report.

The hotel prototype named Kimber Modern SoCo is a project of Kimber Cavendish of Austin, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Cavendish eight years ago developed the first Kimber Modern hotel a stone's throw away from Guero's, behind the Continental Club.

The popular taco bar is located at 1412 S Congress Ave.

The new hotel will have 34 rooms and will feature three-and-a-half levels of underground parking with 68 spaces, Guero's owner Rob Lippincott told the newspaper. The hotel will occupy land on which Vulcan Video and Eco-Wise formerly stood before the businesses were razed.

The project reportedly also will encompass some retail ane event space. The owner hopes to break ground on the hotel by early next year.
