SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS —The southbound Interstate 35 Oltorf Street exit will be permanently closed on Monday, Texas Department of Transportation officials said.
The exit (232A) will be closed on Oct. 8 as crews convert the Woodland Avenue exit (232B) into the Woodland Avenue/Oltorf Street exit (232), transportation officials said. Beginning at 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 (weather permitting), southbound I-35 will be reduced to one lane between the entrance ramp north of Woodland Avenue and the entrance ramp north of Oltorf Street to accommodate crews re-striping the roadway, installing new signage and placing a barrier for the ramp closure, officials said.

Lanes are expected to reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, along with the new exit ramp. If necessary, main lane closures will continue on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. to complete remaining work for the ramp change, according to TxDot.
Drivers wishing to access Oltorf Street will need to exit at the new Woodland Avenue/Oltorf Street exit ramp and travel through the signal at Woodland Avenue to Oltorf Street. Road signs will be placed to alert drivers of the changes and notify them to exit earlier.

This ramp closure is required for improvements being constructed as part of the I-35 at Oltorf Street project. Closing, reconfiguring and reconstructing ramps on both the north and southbound sides of I-35 throughout the project area will provide for longer merge distances to improve mobility and safety. Crews will soon begin reconstructing the southbound entrance ramp between Woodland Avenue and Oltorf Street and are currently constructing the new southbound Woodward Street/Ben White Boulevard exit ramp. Ramp improvements on the I-35 at Oltorf Street project are expected to reduce crashes in the area by 20 percent.
