Rain Expected In Austin Area Through Most Of The Week

At one point on Tuesday, rain was being dumped in Central Texas at a rate of about an inch per hour, according to meteorologists.

AUSTIN, TX β€” If you love rain, then Tuesday will surely be your good news day. For the rest of you, be advised that rain that began on Father's Day this past Sunday is expected to last through the afternoon, with at least two inches of rain dumped on the region before it's all done.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service said about an inch of rain per hour was expected to be dumped as the storms develop. And it's won't be over anytime soon: Meteorologists say the rain is expected to continue into Wednesday and Thursday.

The hardest rainfall came Tuesday at around noon, but should be weakening by evening, according to forecasters. The rain gauge at the Lower Colorado River Authority registered .55 inches of rain as having fallen on the Blanco River near Kyle on Tuesday morning and .46 inches near Elgin in Bastrop County.

Typically benign and nourishing for flora and fauna, hard rain in these parts also poses the danger of flash flooding. So far, no such alerts have been issued.
