At last sighting, Santa was moving from Europe and Africa westward, taking the long slog across the Atlantic Ocean to deliver presents on the East Coast first before making his way to California.

A spokesman at the North Pole told Patch that Santa departed for his around-the-world trip a bit overweight but in good spirits, and that the cookies left for him along his route were keeping his energy up.

According to a U.S. Navy spokeswoman, Santa could be heard by sailors in the ocean to be hollering, β€œHo! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas!” He appeared well, the spokeswoman said, adding that Rudolph and the other reindeer were leading a flawless flight.
