South Austin Business 'The Hive' To Offer Working Space/Daycare Under One Roof (Video)

New Orleans transplant Shelly Weiser, mother of two young children, is bringing concept to Austin, where it'll be first of its kind here.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — A new concept in child care is coming to South Austin soon, one in which parents can work while having their kids supervised all under the same roof.

The new co-working space called "The Hive" at 10415 Old Manchaca Rd. is the first of its kind in Austin. it's the brainchild of Shelly Weiser, who explains on her website that she first got the idea to open the local business after seeing a similar concept in her Louisiana hometown. As the mother of two toddlers, she said the idea of a place where a parent could get some work done while spontaneously bringing along the kids was something that resonated with her personally.

"My journey started Christmas 2015 when I saw a similar concept in my hometown of Baton Rouge," she wrote. "For the entirety of my eight-hour trip home (well actually 12 hours since we had two toddlers in tow), I couldn’t stop thinking about how amazing an idea it was! I am a graphic designer by trade and there was nowhere to bring the kiddos if I had a last-minute project that I need to work on or a conference call that I couldn’t miss. I needed a resource that was as flexible as I need to be for my clients."

And so the business idea was hatched, albeit with some trepidation: "Soooooo, I figured why not solve that problem myself!" Weiser wrote. "Other people do big things like this, why can’t I (gulp)!"

The business is scheduled to open this fall. Along with ample work space, parents can enjoy a cup of coffee or even a relaxing glass of beer or wine, according to company literature.

"This has been a crazy roller coaster of a year but I’m so excited to finally say that we are officially going to be able to create a community of parents who will come together in their celebration of parenthood and the peace and quiet that can now come along with it," Weiser writes.
