South Austin Cocktail Scene Getting New Venue

Backbeat will offer outdoor rooftop bar.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Even in a city where eclectic and trendy cocktail bars abound, a good number of residents are eagerly anticipating the imminent opening of yet another: Backbeat.

It’s understatement to label this South Austin project as mere watering hole. The two-story venueβ€”slated for a March 2016 openingβ€”boasts a sizable 2,000 square feet of space, according to a sneak peek granted to CultureMap.

Its interior spaces will be illuminated with natural light in basking the exposed metal and wood elements within. Patrons can enjoy their cocktails either at the indoor cocktail lounge or the rooftop bar outside.

Located at 1300 S. Lamar, Backbeat is the latest venue for the husband-and-wife team of Jessica and Michael Sandersβ€”the same team behind the popular Drink.Well American Pub in the Northloop neighborhood.
Backbeat is being designed by Chioco Design, the firm beind Winflo Osteria, Perla’ and the Torchy’s on Mueller, according to CultureMap.

The new bar will offer mixed drinks, a wine list and offer a number of craft brews on tapβ€”including Austin Beerworks and Hops & Grain. And in near proximity to popular eateries, including Tatsu-Ya and Odd Duck, Backbeat’s entry along the Lamar corridor will make for a complementary presence in the neighborhood.
