St. Edward's University Seek Alternate Student Housing After Construction Delays

133-unit The Pavilion was supposed to open in fall but labor shortage and other issues has delayed completion, sending students scrambling.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — St. Edwards's University officials are having to find alternative housing for some 400 students due to construction delays on an apartment complex on campus that won't be ready by the fall term, according to a published report.

The $33 million complex dubbed The Pavilion was supposed to be opened in the fall semester by Aug. 28 to accommodate housing demand on campus, But a shortage of construction workers and myriad other issues delayed the timeline, and the complex won't be open until the spring, a university spokeswoman told the Austin American-Statesman.

University officials alerted students to the delay earlier this week, according to the report. The university has offered to cover the difference between what students had been planning to pay for housing and rents wherever they might end up living, according to the report. To allay angry students, university officials also are throwing in free parking passes and a free morning and evening shuttle for students forced to live off campus.
