'Uchi' is the No. 1 Sushi Restaurant in America

This isn't the first time the sushi restaurant has been recognized nationally.

Uchi - along with its sister restaurant Uchiko - has been named as the No. 1 sushi restaurant in the country in TimeOut magazine.

β€œDespite the expansion, there’s no room here for pretension: for all his technical mastery and cutting-edge proclivities, Cole’s menus change often and range widely enough to appeal to novices as well as connoisseurs, who can compare, say, three different kinds of sea urchin while their warier companions sample tempura-fried Brie alongside β€œclean, crisp, light” sakes and white wine,” said the magazine.

The magazine made sure to acknowledge the historic accomplishments of renowned Uchi chef Tyson Cole. As the first American itamae James Beard Award for Best Chef winner, Cole has managed to successfully integrate his passion for Japanese cuisine into the restaurant scene in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. He is also the first Austin chef to win the illustrious James BeardΒ award.

Uchi is no newcomer to dining accolades. In early October, TripAdvisor released its annual Traveler’s Choice Awards, naming Uchi No. 4 in a selection of the best fine dining restaurants in the county.

Uchi Restaurant Group also owns the St. Philip Pizza Parlor in South Austin.
