Texas Conservation Science, Inc.
Through at least 2017, a primary project establishes a long-term vegetation monitoring network and quantifies higher river flows needed to sustain riparian forests and other floodplain habitats. Starting in 2009, ECA has developed analyses to quantify environmental-flow requirements to sustain floodplain habitats and ecosystem processes. The empirical methods involve wetted-surface classification of Landsat imagery during multiple flow events, habitat mapping, and both hydrological and regression analyses. As part of this overall project, the selected applicant is primarily responsible for plant identification, quantitative vegetation sampling, related data analysis, and other field and administrative tasks. With State funding, ECA is currently expanding the Texas riparian research network with 15 additional research stations.
