
A man is facing charges after being arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after driving the wrong way on South MoPac and causing a crash, according to an arrest affidavit from the Austin Police Department.
According to the affidavit, Mitchell Rivera, 32, was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of South MoPac near William Cannon at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday when he collided with another vehicle traveling southbound. When an officer arrived at the scene of the crash, both drivers were standing outside and talking to each other.

Rivera “freely acknowledge driving the wrong way,” according to the affidavit. The court documents indicate that Rivera had consumed four 12 ounce beers and two shots.

Rivera was booked and released from the Travis County Jail on a $5,000 bond. He has a previous DWI conviction from 2010. According to the affidavit, a judge said that he would have to install an ignition interlock device on his vehicle.
