Bogus Call For Wounded Deputy Gets Man Jailed For False Report

Demarcus Pugh, 24, is in the Harris County Jail for making a false report, and is under investigation for similar incidents, police said.

SPRING, TX β€” A 24-year-old man is in the Harris County Jail after making a frantic call that claimed a Harris County deputy constable had been seriously wounded in a shooting. The problem was that the report was all a hoax, officials said.

Demarcus Mont Pugh is in the Harris County Jail for making a false report, and is under investigation for reporting similar incidents to police.

On Dec. 29, 2018, deputies from Harris County Pct. 4 responded to the Pecan Square Apartments in the 13900 block of Ella Blvd. for a report that a deputy had been shot and that a nurse was performing CPR.

Deputy Constables and other law enforcement agencies responded with lights and sirens to the location and began a tedious search of the apartment complex to find the injured deputy.

Officers thoroughly searched the apartment complex, but could not find the injured deputy or any evidence of a shooting.

Deputies conducted an investigation and with the help of the Cypress Creek EMS Communications Center and the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office, identified the caller as Pugh and issued a warrant for his arrest.

"Demarcus Pugh was arrested for the warrant on Dec. 31, 2018 and was booked into the Harris County Jail. Pugh is currently under investigation for additional crimes involving reporting false incidents to local public safety agencies in 2017 and 2018. We anticipate filing more criminal charges against him," Constable Mark Herman said in a press release.
