Jenny McGown Named Lone Finalist As Klein ISD Superintendent

Jenny McGown began as an English teacher in Klein ISD and will become the districts next superintendent on July 1.

KLEIN, TX β€” The Klein Independent School District has named Jenny McGown as its lone finalist to succeed former Superintendent Bret Champion. McGown, who serves as the district’s deputy superintendent, was introduced as the lone finalist on June 6. As per the state statute, she will be officially sworn as Klein ISD’s new superintendent on June 28, and assume her new role on July 1.

"I am incredibly proud to be part of our Klein family and am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as superintendent," McGown said. "Students have always been and will always be at the heart of everything we do in Klein ISD."

Champion had served as superintendent for three years before he submitted his resignation to the board of trustees in May to pursue a similar position in Oregon.

Board President Georgan Reitmeier expressed her’s and the board’s confidence in McGown, who has spent much of her career in Klein ISD.

"As a truly invested member of this community, Dr. McGown is uniquely qualified to lead our district and ensure that our shared vision of every student entering with a promise and exiting with a purpose is made a reality," Reitmeier said.

McGown began her career in Klein ISD as an English teacher after first teaching overseas. She then worked as an administrator on the elementary and secondary level, before moving up to the district level.

Former Klein ISD superintendent Dr. Jim Cain offered his support for Dr. McGown upon hearing of her selection.

"I’ve known Jenny since she was a classroom teacher, and I’ve watched her career as she became a campus administrator and then a district leader," Cain said. "Jenny embodies everything that makes the Klein ISD a first-class place. She has the talent, skill, energy, and the feeling of community and family that is so important to Klein. When you put all of that together, I know she will be an outstanding superintendent for the Klein ISD."
