Sugar Land PD Arrest Man Accused In $1K Sunglasses Theft

Santos Ruben Pena, 45, who is accused of stealing $1,000 in sunglasses at First Colony Mall, is being held in the Fort Bend County Jail.

SUGAR LAND, TX — A 45-year-old man who was seen casually walking through the Lenscrafters store at First Colony Mall while looking at sunglasses, has been arrested and charged with felony theft. Sugar Land Police recently arrested Santos Ruben Pena and charged him with theft after he was accused of stealing several pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses worth about $1,000.

A Fort Bend County Crimestoppers tip led to the identification of Pena after surveillance video from Lenscrafters, 16535 N Southwest Freeway, was shared with local news stations and social media.

Police said an employee at the Lenscrafters store was working on Sept. 16 when he saw Pena remove Ray-Ban sunglasses from a display and place them in his pocket.

Police said the store employee confronted Pena, who returned three pair and immediately left the store. However, store employees soon realized that five pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses were still missing and called police.

Police reviewed store surveillance, which showed Pena come into the store at 2 p.m., approach a counter-top display and take the sunglasses.

Pena is in the Fort Bend County Jail with his bail amount set at $30,000.
