TOMBALL, TX β€” Election season is in full swing and politicians who are hoping to remain in office, or ascend to a new office are on the campaign trail. Last week, State Representative Tom Oliverson, and Dan Crenshaw, the Republican nominee for US Rep in District 2, met with members of the Tomball business community to talk about the political climate and share what they are hearing from their fellow constituents.

Oliverson, who is seeking his second term as the state representative for District 130, said concerns among constituents run the gamut on key issues including border security, schools, health care reform, and property taxes.

Oliverson said there are other pressing issues among constituents that will need to be addressed in the next legislative session, provided he wins on Nov. 6. Oliverson, who ran unopposed in the March primary, will face Democrat Fred Infortunio and Libertarian Roy Eriksen.

Oliverson, who presents the heavily Republican district that includes Tomball, Cypress, Hockley, and Waller, is expected to win easily.

Crenshaw, who is a political newcomer, is seeking to replace the retiring Ted Poe in District 2. Crenshaw, a retired Navy SEAL bested a crowded Republican field that included State Rep. Kevin Roberts of Spring, and businesswoman Kathleen Wall.

Crenshaw will face Democrat Todd Litton in the general election, and like Oliverson, is seeking office in a heavily Republican region and is expected to be easily elected to office.

Crenshaw said he sees a lot of challenges heading into the new Congress and is hopeful that the gap in the Republican majority isn’t too narrow, but that will depend on the voters.

Crenshaw said he has had several discussions with young voters, mostly college students who identify as Democrats, and found they may not agree, but they will listen.

"Maybe it's the southern hospitality," he said.

Early voting begins on Oct. 22 and runs through Nov. 2, with the general election on Nov. 6.
