SPRING, TX -- What would you do in an active shooter situation?
That's the question that many have begun to ask themselves in the wake of the shootings at Santa Fe High School and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida earlier this year.

As a result, many who have a conceal carry license are opting to be ready, and that has led to a surge in active shooter training courses.
One of the most popular classes in the area is being held through the end of July at Spring Guns and Ammo on Spring-Cypress Road.

Kris Mayfield, a 28-year law enforcement veteran, has spent his career teaching law enforcement officials what to do, but now he's teaching the average civilian how to be ready in a dangerous situation.
According to a Houston Chronicle report, a number of gun ranges have gotten inquiries from people looking into this type of training.
As the public has learned in recent mass shooting events, seconds count, even when the police are on their way, and that's why so many are interested in the training, Mayfield said.
