Local Bookstore Boasts Unusual Mascot

Buy the Book’s mascot is a young black cat named Luna who the staff adopted in July 2022 to add a unique touch. According to Bri O’Callagehan, 19, an employee, Luna didn’t always have owners.

“We think that she’s 3 or 4… Luna was around lots of construction workers. That’s the only reason she was fed and taken care of when she was on the street,” said O’Callagehan.

Luna was also taken to a shelter called Clipped Ear Cat Sanctuary after being a stray and giving birth to 3 litters. The store’s employees do not know who adopted the kittens because the construction workers gave all of them to shelters.

Abby Fletcher, 30, the Owner/Manager noted, “We knew from the beginning that we wanted a cat for the bookstore just to make it complete. When we were looking we knew we wanted a cat that would be personable, would get along with people, and would be good at the store. We narrowed it down to 2 cats and when we met Luna we just knew. ”

The animal stays at Buy the Book unless it is closed for a holiday. She has many toys at the shop so that guests can play with her, but her favorite one is a small and red pom-pom. She is also strictly an indoor cat due to safety concerns about the busy parking lot and two main roads. The only times she has left are when she was in her kennel.

She receives veterinary care from the Rayford Animal Clinic and Texas Litter Control, which are also located in The Woodlands, depending on what she needs.

“We just take her to Texas Litter Control if she just needs her shots,” Fletcher mentioned.
