Police Investigate Medical Files Discovered In Tomball Dumpster
Sensitive patient information and employee files originating from Today's Vision in Willowbrook, were dumped in Tomball, police said.
TOMBALL, TX — The discovery of thousands of medical files from a shuttered optometrist's office found dumped behind a Tomball strip center has sparked an investigation from the Tomball Police Department.
More than 20 boxes of files that originated from Today’s Vision in Willowbrook, were discovered in a dumpster on Tuesday by a Tomball resident, who contacted police.
The files, which were dated between 1997-2013, contained sensitive patient information, as well as employee information, KPRC reported

Today’s Vision, which has 50 locations in Texas with 35 of those in the Houston, are all independently owned and operated franchises.
The Willowbrook office, which was sold in February to another optometry corporation, MyEyeDr, was previously owned and operated by Dr. Donald Glenz, who also owned a second Today’s Vision office in Tomball.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Human Services Civil Rights Division is looking into the matter for possible violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, commonly known as HIPAA, which protects patient privacy.
