Tomball Adds 6 Full Time Firefighters At Two Stations

The six firefighters all possess a varied background, but they all also have one thing in common: They are dedicated to Tomball's safety.

TOMBALL, TX β€” The Tomball Fire Department announced on Oct. 1 that it has promoted six firefighters to a full-time status. The six new positions will be assigned one each to the two City fire stations.

β€œThese positions will allow the organization to efficiently staff each of the two City stations with an officer, driver and firefighter and to move toward creating that safe and effective firefighting team,” Tomball Fire Chief Randy Parr said.

The six firefighters/EMT’s all possess a varied background, but they all also have one thing in common: They are dedicated to the safety of all Tomball residents.

Among those new full-time firefighters are:
  • John Chambliss, who was recognized in 2017 as the Volunteer Firefighter of the Year. Chambliss, who Parr called, β€œan extraordinary firefighter,” owns and operates Power Fitness Tomball and holds several certifications from Baylor College of Medicine.
  • Chris Stuart attended the Lone Star College-CyFair Fire Academy and is working toward earning his Associates of Applied Science degree in Fire Science and being promoted within the Fire Service. Chris enjoys working out, fixing cars, and woodworking.
  • Brad McDearman holds an Associates of Applied Science degree in Fire Science. He has served both the communities of Tomball and Montgomery. He previously worked as a garage door mechanic, a security contract manager, and in the construction industry before he became a firefighter. Brad hopes to keep learning and moving forward while teaching the new crews how to succeed.
  • Alondra Armilla, who has served in the Army National Guard since 2006, attended Kingwood Fire Academy and received her EMT certifications with Lone Star College. She was recognized for academic excellence and was a member of the National Honor Society and named on the President's List with Lone Star and Remington College. Armilla is certified as a Driver/Operator and holds an Associates of Applied Science degree in Fire Science. As a soldier, Armilla was awarded the Army Achievement Medal in 2012, with subsequent awards in 2014, and 2017. Armilla also owns her own online bookkeeping service and has worked previously with Houston's Animal Rescue Team as an Animal Behavior Assistant and Dog Trainer, and as a Medical Assistant at Davita.
  • John Kelley, a Firefighter and Paramedic, brings a wealth of experience to the Tomball Fire Department. Kelly has served with the Tomball Fire Department for 3 years. Previously, he served with the Pearland Fire Department as a Lieutenant and with Waller County EMS. His goal is to earn his BA in Business.
  • Garret Mears came to the Tomball Fire Department in 2017 as a part-timer and is thrilled to be promoted to full time status. He hopes to give back to the Tomball community as much as Tomball has given to him.
β€œAs firefighting is a β€œteam” activity, it is critical for team members to work and train together to understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses in order to build the trust necessary to enter a burning building to perform the tasks necessary to mitigate the incident,” Parr said.
