TOMBALL, TX β€” The 50th anniversary of the America's first lunar landing is Saturday and the City of Tomball is joining with other Houston area communities and celebrate this historic event.

In honor of that historic achievement, member cities of β€œVisit Houston & Beyond” across the Houston area will be hosting a variety of activities and exhibits in July.

The City of Tomball will be celebrating the lunar landing on weekends throughout the month with two NASA themed dioramas, educational videos, a display of Apollo mission patches and more at the historic 1907 Railroad Depot Museum.

One diorama represents the Apollo 11 landing on the moon’s surface at Tranquility Base with an accompanying video timeline, photos and a personal message from Astronauts currently onboard the International Space Station.

The second diorama pays tribute to the little known NASA Railroad that played an integral part in the manned space program at Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center in Florida from the early years through the end of the Space Shuttle program.

This exhibit is supported by photos from the NASA archives and a short video documenting the accomplishments of the railway which ended its primary mission with the final flight of the Space Shuttle Atlantis.

On Saturday, July 20, guests will receive free Astronaut ice cream sandwiches while supplies last. Depot mascot Rusty Rails will be on hand in his space attire to meet and greet guests, too.

The historic 1907 Railroad Depot Museum is at 201 South Elm Street in downtown Tomball along the tracks of the BNSF Railroad. Admission and parking are free.
