Woodlands Man Recovering After Losing Leg In Industrial Accident
Steve Scheaffer, 53, was critically injured while repairing an air conditioning unit at a Randalls Store in The Woodlands on Friday.

THE WOODLANDS, TX β A Woodlands man is recovering in a local hospital after he lost his leg in an industrial accident on Friday. Steve Scheaffer, 53, was critically injured while repairing an air conditioning unit at a Randalls Store when a rupture occurred in the unit seriously injuring Scheafferβs left knee.
He was rushed to Memorial Herman Hospital in The Woodlands, where emergency surgery was performed to amputate his left leg.
The incident happened at about 10:30 a.m.at the Randalls located at 2250 Buckthorne Place and was initially reported as an explosion.

Scheaffer, who has for Hussman Corporation for several years, is the sole provider of his family and has two children who still live at home, KTRK reported.
He is expected to undergo at least two more surgeries in the coming days before he begins rehabilitation and returns home.

Meanwhile, friends and family have set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for expenses.
βAnything raised will go towards the daily expenses incurred by the family having to travel daily to the Woodlands and anything Steve may need in the future,β according to the statement from the family. βThe Scheaffer family is not one to ask for help, this fund will hopefully allow them to focus on Steve and his recovery instead of finances.β
The Randalls Store is closed pending the outcome of the investigation, Randalls officials said in a statement.
