Bryan Offers $1 Million Reward Money For Info On Violent Crimes
It is the administration's latest bid to convince the community to speak up against criminals.
U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Bryan announced on Monday that he is earmarking $1 million to reward Virgin Islanders who share information that could solve major crimes.
“This is just one initiative we will be announcing to help and assist and encourage our people to do the right thing and testify against these people who are terrorists in our community,” said Bryan.
Bryan made the announcement amid a surge in violent crimes across the territory. There have been 30 homicides in the Virgin Islands this year, as reported by the Virgin Islands Daily News. 24 people were murdered on St. Croix, six on St. Thomas and one on St. John.

Per Bryan's plan, $50,000 will be awarded for information that leads to the arrest of someone in a homicide case. Information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in an armed robbery case will be awarded $25,000.
The money will be added to the fiscal year 2022 budget as "an extra appendage."
