CAHS Coach Charged With Sexual Exploitation Of Children

Alfredo Bruce Smith was accused of molestating children and making pornography, federal prosecutors say.

ST. THOMAS, USVI — Alfredo Bruce Smith, a track and field coach at Charlotte Amalie High School was arrested this week and charged with the sexual exploitation of children, according to a statement released by U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert. Smith, 50, was accused of molesting children and producing child pornography, federal prosecutors said

Homeland Security initiated the investigation into Smith after receiving reports that he had inappropriately touched a minor during a school-sponsored track and field trip in March 2021. The investigators also received complaints that there were photographs of boys who attended the high school on his cellphone.

"One witness reported that over six young males confided that they had been molested or raped by the defendant," the Department of Justice said.

According to court documents, while searching Smith's home, investigators also found a video depicting a sex act on a camcorder belonging to the high school

If convicted, Smith faces up to 30 years in prison.
