π± Dateline Investigates Sarm Heslop Disappearance + More
The quickest way to get caught up on the headlines, upcoming events and everything else happening in the USVI.
There's plenty going on in the territory tonight, but if you find yourself at home, tune in for Dateline NBC's new episode on the disappearance of Sarm Heslop.
Another event worth keeping an eye on : the #BreakBeatCode Hackathon hosted by the Children' Museum. Check out the Social section for more details. In the meantime, here are some of the headlines I'm following:
- Dateline NBC will air a new episode on Friday digging into the disappearance of Sarm Heslop. Heslop disappeared from her boyfriend Ryan Baneβs sailboat near St. John in March 2021. The broadcast will feature exclusive interviews with former USVI Police Commissioner Trevor Velinor and Ryan Baneβs ex-wife. Tune in on Friday, March 11 at 9 p.m./8 p.m. CT.
- U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized an aircraft that they suspect was used for smuggling. Get the full story in The Source.
- The University of the Virgin Islands announced changes to its free tuition program intended to make the university more affordable for all students. Find out how in the VI Consortium.
- Officials from the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs addressed possible price gouging and profiteering in the territory. βThis issue really started several months ago with communities that have bounced back from the pandemic we have all been dealing with the last couple years, travel induced, going back to restaurants,β Consumer Affairs Director Matthew Padgett told The Daily News. βBefore the war waged against Ukraine, we were seeing inflation of about 8 percent.β
