🌱 DPNR To Place Buoys In Round Bay, Job Postings + More

Here's a quick round-up of the latest headlines from across the territory. And don't miss the Social Buzz for a strange story from the VIPD.

  • The Ocean-Bound Plastics Recycling Program on St. John aims to significantly reduce the amount of plastic and other pollutants that end up in USVI waters and in USVI landfills. Read more in the VI Consortium.
  • DPNR announced plans to place buoys in Round Bay in St. John. Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol confirmed that while boaters can currently anchor or use the bay without restriction, once the buoys are in place, captains will be required to stay within the demarcated marine space. The buoys will be 350 feet from the shoreline, via the VI Consortium.

  • Christiansted, St. Croix: On May 19, 2021, at 8:36 am., the body of a female was found on the road in Estate Bugby Hole, in an advanced stage of decomposition. Based on reports that were made regarding a female who was seen in the area acting erratically, contact was made with the family of that female and DNA samples were collected. A DNA paternity testing was conducted using the biological daughter of the deceased. The test revealed that the deceased was 39-year-old Marla Santos. Autopsy was conducted by Dr. J. Pender who stated that there were no visible signs of trauma or foul play and that the cause of death was from natural causes. Via the Virgin Islands Police Department.
