π± Enraged Man Drives Car Into Harbor, Sugar Bay Sale + More

Good morning, folks. Before you kick off the weekend, get smart on the latest headlines, events, and don't miss the social buzz section.
- The male driver of a small SUV died after driving his vehicle into the sea in Charlotte Amalie on Thursday night. Police say the man was having an argument with his female passenger when he became enraged and drove the car off the road and into the harbor. The female passenger escaped and was rescued by man working at the nearby Jerk Bar B Que, according to Police comments. The man died at the scene. Read more in the VI Consortium.
- Sugar Bay Club & Resort is under new ownership. According to the Recorder o Deeds Division, a group called DV USVI Investment Group LLLP purchased the property for $20 million. The resort was heavily damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria and closed in 2017. No word on the new owner's plans for the property, however, the public is invited to a "blowout sale" of all the remaining furniture, to be held on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find out more in the Daily News.
- The criminal trial of Paul Girard started this week in the District Court on St. Croix. Girard, who goes by the nickname 'Bogus,' is accused of running a criminal ring responsible for multiple murders, armed robberies, carjacking, kidnapping, extortion, money laundering and distribution of controlled substances across the territory and beyond. - WAPA is now accepting applications for the 2022 Alva C. McFarlane Scholarship program. The scholarship provides up to $60,000 in financial support for students working towards a bachelor's degree in an accredited engineering program. Graduating high school seniors, college freshmen and college sophomores have through April 1 to apply online. More details in The Source.
