U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center say the low pressure system off the coast of Africa now has a 90 percent chance of developing into a tropical storm.

The system is currently several hundred miles west-southwest of the coast of Guinea and it is moving west-northwest at 10-15 mph. Experts expect it to become a tropical depression by midweek.

Meanwhile, a system in the mid-Atlantic has developed into a tropical depression, earning it a name: Kate. Kate's predicted path is north, steering clear of land.
