Tropical Storm Larry Expected to Become A Hurricane Imminently

The National Hurricane Center expects Tropical Storm Larry to become a hurricane Wednesday night and a major hurricane by Friday.

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Tropical Storm Larry is rapidly strengthening as it moves westward across the Atlantic, according to the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center. Ex[erts expect it to develop into a hurricane on Wednesday night and a major hurricane by Friday.

The tropical storm is strengthening and developing faster than forecasters originally expected. Larry currently has maximum sustained winds near 70 mph with higher gusts, up from 50 mph on Wednesday morning.

"Steady to rapid strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Larry is expected to become a hurricane tonight and a major hurricane by Friday," warned the latest public advisory, issued on Wednesday at 5 p.m. AST.

Larry is currently over the far eastern tropical Atlantic, several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

The National Hurricane Center has not released any coast warnings or watches, yet.
