A New Tropical Wave Off Africa Could Be Trouble
Forecasters are predicting a new tropical wave off the coast of Africa has an 80 percent chance of forming into a storm this week.
U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — As Ida tramples inland across Mississippi as a newly-downgraded tropical storm, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are turning their attention to a new tropical wave off the west coast of Africa. Why? Because the chances of it forming into a tropical storm or hurricane are already high: 60 percent over the next 48 hours and 80 percent over the next five days.
The tropical wave is expected to move over the eastern Tropical Atlantic today and conditions are conducive for it to turn into a tropical depression midweek.
