U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — A low-pressure system off the Cabo Verde Islands now has a 90 percent chance of forming into a tropical storm or hurricane by the end of the weekend, say forecasters at the National Hurricane Center.

Experts say conditions are favorable for the system to develop into a larger storm as it moves westward across the Atlantic. If the storm follows the latest forecasted path, it will reach the Virgin Islands early next week.
