🌱 PR Drops Most Mask Mandates, Coast Guard Rescues STX Boaters

The quickest way to get caught up on the headlines, upcoming events, and everything else happening in the USVI.

I know the serious news is in the headlines, but the Social Buzz section is where it's at today. The VI Children's Museum is hosting a very cool Storytelling Masterclass every Saturday from May through June. And the VIPD is looking for new officers. Interested?   • The governor of Puerto Rico announced that masks are no longer required in most indoor and outdoor venues, via The New York Times.
  • Nine St. Croix residents were rescued by the Coast Guard on Sunday evening after their boat ran out of fuel east of Judith's Fancy. The boat broke free of the anchor and ended up on the rocks, via The Source.
  • ProSolar, the local solar power provider, announced a new marketing deal with Aliyah Boston, the University of South Carolina basketball star and native of St. Thomas. Per ProSolar's press release, the company has already filmed a commercial starring Boston. Read more in the VI Consortium.
  • A lieutenant colonel in the V.I. National Guard was arrested and charged for negligent driving and driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor. The driver, identified as Lieutenant Colonel David Ginn, was pulled over near the intersection of Melvin H. Evans Highway and East Airport Road on Sunday night.   • 17 years after the case began, two St. Croix businessmen were found guilty by a jury of breach of contract and subsequently defaming the former operators of Cane Bay Beach Restaurant and Bar. Warren Mosler and Chris Hanley must pay the plaintiffs, Joe Gerace and Victoria Vooy, $320,000. The Daily News goes back 17 years to when the case began. It is worth reading.
