Road Construction Begins On St. Croix. Expect Closures

Check out the schedule for road closures.

ST. CROIX, USVI — The V.I. Department of Public Works is launching an aggressive campaign to repair roads and residents can expect some road closures over the next few months. The campaign started in St. Croix on Sunday.

On Sunday, Sept 26, VI Paving started milling, paving and striping Route 83, near Catherine's rest. The construction is expected to be complete by Sept. 29.

The roadwork schedule is as follows:
September 26 – Night Work – Milling 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (Full Road Closure)
September 27 – Day Work – Paving 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Single Lane Closure)
September 28 – Day Work – Paving 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Single Lane Closure)
September 29 – Day Work – Paving 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Single Lane Closure)

As reported by the St. Thomas Source, the 34th Legislature passed Bill No. 34-0036 back in May, 2021. The bill earmarks approximately $20 million for milling, paving, striping and drainage improvements to over 30 locations throughout the territory.
