U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Tropical Storm Rose is the 17th named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, and while it poses little threat to the USVI, a potential storm is brewing on its heels.

Tropical Storm Rose was located but 370 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands as of Sunday evening. The storm is moving toward the north-northwest at about 16 mph. It is expected to turn northwest and continue north through Wednesday, avoiding landfall.

However, Rose is closely followed by a growing system off the coast of Africa. Forecasters predict it has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical storm or hurricane by the end of the week.
