Two More Deaths From COVID-19
Two more Virgin Islanders have died from COVID-19. Officials blame the Delta variant, low vaccination rates, and people not quarantining.
U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Two more people have died from COVID-19, as reported by the St. Thomas Source, bringing the territory's total death toll to 56.
A 66-year-old man from St. Thomas and a 62-year-old woman from St. Croix are the 55th and 56th victims of the pandemic.
As of Tuesday, the V.I. Department of Health reported 285 active COVID-19 cases in the territory: 161 on St. Thomas, 108 on St. Croix and 16 on St. John. Officials have blamed the latest cases on the Delta variant, the low rate of vaccination in the territory, and people not quarantining when they are infected.
